New White Paper: “Donor Advised Funds: Democratizing Philanthropy to Change the World”
April 10, 2017Global Impact’s Scott Jackson and Ann Canela have co-authored a white paper, “Donor Advised Funds: Democratizing Philanthropy to Change the World,” that explores why Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) have become the fastest-growing charitable vehicle in the US. In this paper, produced in partnership with The Conference Board, Jackson and Canela describe how the US philanthropic landscape is transforming as new generations of individual donors seek more effective ways to create social impact and corporate citizenship becomes more of a priority for forward-thinking businesses. The authors discuss how DAFs can democratize personal giving in and beyond the workplace, at a time when concerted philanthropic effort is needed to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
For employers, DAFs offer a unique opportunity to tie philanthropy to corporate responsibility goals and engage employees through giving programs that reflect their values. To illustrate this, the authors discuss how DAFs figured into the creation of Growfund, Global Impact’s charitable giving tool that democratizes philanthropy by allowing individuals to create their own personal foundation with as little as $1. Operating like a money market or 401(k), Growfund helps everyday individuals give with impact where they live, learn and work.
